Asad: Finding His Way Back to the Sun
The sun in Tando Adam can be unforgiving. For 22-year-old Asad, it was once simply part of the job—a daily wage labourer working long hours under the heat to help support his family.
Then, slowly, the sun became something he could no longer face.
After the passing of his father, Ali Dino, Asad shared the responsibility of supporting a family of 10 with his two elder brothers. But when his vision began to deteriorate, even earning a daily wage became difficult.
There was no fever or illness to warn him. His sight simply began to fade as cataracts clouded both eyes. The harsh midday sunlight became unbearable, and eventually, Asad could no longer see well enough to work safely in the heat.
Concerned, Asad visited a local doctor in Tando Adam, who referred him to LRBT’s Rashidabad Secondary Eye Hospital. He had already paid for surgery on one eye himself. But for his second eye, he was eligible for LRBT’s Zakat-supported welfare programme—meaning he would not have to choose between restoring his sight and providing for his family.
At LRBT Rashidabad, Asad underwent successful cataract surgery. By the very next day, he was discharged—with his sight restored, completely free of cost.
What Asad regained was more than his vision.
He regained his ability to work. To support his family. And to stand beneath the same sun that once seemed impossible to face.
Because when sight is restored, so much more becomes possible.
