Amna - A Child’s Future Begins with Clear Sight

Nine-year-old Amna lives in Lahore with her parents and two siblings in a home filled with love, laughter, and the everyday challenges faced by countless families. Her father works long hours at a private job, often returning home late and exhausted, yet unwavering in his determination to provide for his family. Her mother manages the household with care and resilience, balancing endless chores with the emotional needs of her children. Despite financial pressures and occasional disagreements, warmth and togetherness remain at the heart of their home.
Amna, a bright and cheerful child, shared a particularly close bond with her mother, who was her constant companion in play and conversation. She was doing well in Grade 1 when her mother began noticing small but troubling difficulties in her daily activities. At school, Amna’s teacher observed that she frequently copied the wrong lines from the board, squinted her eyes, and made repeated mistakes in her work. Concerned about her vision, the teacher advised her mother to seek medical attention.
Acting promptly, Amna’s mother brought her to LRBT’s Lahore Tertiary Base Hospital. After thorough examinations, doctors diagnosed cataracts in both of Amna’s eyes—a serious condition that, if left untreated, could have severely affected her education, confidence, and future. Recognizing the urgency, LRBT immediately referred her for surgery. Following all necessary tests, Amna underwent successful cataract operations in both eyes, performed with exceptional skill, care, and compassion.
Today, Amna’s life has been transformed. She returns to school with renewed confidence, sees the board clearly, reads without strain, and actively participates in class. At home, she plays joyfully with her siblings and embraces her childhood once again—especially with her beloved younger brother, Mustafa. While her family continues to face the realities of long work hours, busy days, and occasional quarrels, Amna’s restored vision has become a powerful source of hope and happiness.
Amna’s journey is extraordinary not only because of her personal triumph, but also because she represents a historic milestone for LRBT—she is the 61 millionth patient treated!
Her story reflects LRBT’s unwavering commitment to eliminating curable blindness in Pakistan and the generosity of donors who make this mission possible.
Every contribution helps children like Amna see clearly, learn confidently, and live to their fullest potential. Her restored vision stands as a testament to the power of compassion and collective action—proof that together, we can turn darkness into light and restore hope to millions more.
