Layton Rahmatullah Benevolent Trust (LRBT) was created with Four Founding Principles:
- All treatment at LRBT is totally free so that no man, woman or child becomes blind because he/she cannot afford the treatment.
- Treatment is appropriate and state-of-the-art because charity should not mean second rate.
- Treatment is no discrimination due to gender, caste, ethnicity, language, religion or sect.
- Patients are treated with compassion and dignity.
LRBT was created by Graham Layton & Zaka Rahmatullah as a Benevolent Trust. LRBT manages the operational process while Friends of LRBT USA focuses on raising awareness, building the campaign and growing financial support for LRBT.
How Friends of LRBT USA & Humanity Without Borders Helps
Friends of LRBT USA c/o Humanity Without Borders transfers U.S. raised funds to LRBT directly providing them full control of how the funds are distributed and services are administered. LRBT through its purpose built and appropriately equipped hospitals provide comprehensive eye-care, ranging from simple refraction to the more advanced retinal surgery and corneal transplants. LRBT has highly skilled doctors and cutting edge technology. LRBT provides an end to end service while managing the growth and expansion of existing facilities as well as new builds. LRBT also ensures that all medical professionals receive state of the art training from within or outside of Pakistan where appropriate.
LRBT has 17 fully equipped hospitals, 54 Community Eye Care Centers and four Outreach Clinics – as a result virtually all Pakistanis are no more than 3 hours travel away from a treatment facility. Every patient, however poor, is treated with compassion and dignity.
“RESTORING SIGHT TRANSFORMING LIVES”
LRBT is transforming lives by restoring sight. One of the most striking aspects of the LRBT facilities is their simplicity and orderliness. Although is common to see chaos in public services in South Asia, the LRBT facilities are strongly organized and efficient. Due to the efficiency of this system, the vast majority of patients admitted to an LRBT facility are seen, diagnosed and treated the same day. LRBT has achievable targets that provide a significant impact on the life of it’s patients within days. The sole focus of the hospitals is treating curable eye diseases.
LRBT hospitals and medical staff have an internationally renowned reputation for quality of service and impact on community. The equipment used in the hospitals is internationally recognized as state-of-the-art, reflecting the determination of the founders to provide first-class treatment to all. Indeed as the trained medical staff move from LRBT to other medical institutions and as more patients visit LRBT facilities, pressure grows across the country to raise the standards of hospitals and medical care to match LRBT’s example.
OPEN TO EVERYONE
The same level of care and attention is available to all patients, rich and poor, young and old, men, women and children on a first come first serve basis. There is no discrimination on grounds of religion, gender, class or ethnicity – free diagnosis and treatment is available for all.
Women and minorities form part of the staff at LRBT. All have equal access to job opportunities and career advancement.
